Patti Smith joins Soundwalk Collective for 'Children of Chernobyl'

Will McGuirk March 13, 2025

By Will McGuirk

Ever the street poet Patti Smith adds her voice to this poignant and relevant video for ‘Children of Chernobyl’ by Soundwalk Collective about Chernobyl, the nuclear reactor in Ukraine which exploded in 1986. Smith treads lightly over the dreams of those who lived it and continue to do so as she navigates the space left behind.

“There are roses underfoot that one cannot smell / There is fruit on the vine that one cannot eat / And they went to bed hungry / And hungry they’ll sleep / For a thousand years.” the Chernobyl Children’s Choir sings at the end.

‘Children of Chernobyl’ appears on Correspondences Vol II, a new 2-track EP, out March 21 via Bella Union
