In that fallow period post the very fertile early 00s in Canada there were still acts doing a thing, Great Lake Swimmers, Matt Mays, Leeroy Stagger, plugging away as the eyes and ears moved away, never really getting the levels their talent deserved - anyway its a matter of timing really but also of that ilk, Deep Dark Woods, one of my faves and at the core of the act is Ryan Boldt. Like Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers the vox is uncanny, emotion in a mouth drop. Anyway good to see DDW is back with a new album, and there’s a single out now and its all that melancholic feeling of infinite hope as one stares into the night sky high above the deepest darkest woods.
