Nathaniel Rateliff and Gregory Alan Isakov collaborate on ‘Flower’

Will McGuirk February 24, 2025

By Will McGuirk

Nathaniel Rateliff and Gregory Alan Isakov have known each other since the early days of their careers in their local Denver-Boulder area music scene. Rateliff’s career has taken of such that he and his band of Nightsweats are headling the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto March 21 2025 as part of his North American tour. Isakov may not be as much a household name but still got a Grammy nomination for his album Evening Machines in 2019 and will be support for Rateliff at Madison Square Gardens in New York March 27. The pair initially crafted Flowers as a demo around Rateliff’s 2020 solo album And It’s Still Alright. The track was set aside until recently when the two took it back out to finish. It’s a melancholic number which at the beginning would not be out of place on a Willie Nelson album but veers in to the interstellar cosmic territory of Sturgeon Simpson.
