Christopher Mills shares video for Jim Cuddy's 'Constellations

Will McGuirk November 19, 2018

By Will McGuirk

Christopher Mills has been visualizing the work of Blue Rodeo and its co-founders Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor for many years. There is something I think in the visual world the two singer/songwriters inhabit which has struck within Mills Mills at some deep level and I think he has been circling his own historical moment at the authors say getting closer and further each time. It is a theme in his work with Keelor and Cuddy and it brings out the most lyrical of Mills own work. It may be the connection between the writers, it may be the landscape, it maybe their connection with the land and each other, only Mills knows and its his to chase and its ours to enjoy his journey.

This video is for the title track of Jim Cuddy’s solo album “Constellations” and for your consideration of my commentary here are “City Is a Symphony” from Greg Keelor’s recent solo work, “Last Winter, ” and the double video for Mattawa/ New Morning Sun.

Cuff The Duke return to play Elora River Fest 10th anniversary

Will McGuirk March 23, 2018

Alt-country stalwarts Cuff The Duke have been on hiatus but are back to play Elora's River Fest Aug 17 - 19 2018. The festival is celebrating its ten year anniversary and along with CTD has drawn on the Flaming Lips, Blue Rodeo, Wolf Parade, July Talk, Carole Pope, Julie and the Wrong Guys plus many many others to party with.

Cuff co-founder Wayne Petti says the 'Duke have been working on new tunes but there no plans as yet for a release.

"We will be reissuing our second album on vinyl for the first time. That should be out this summer. The band is the same as it was. Myself, Paul Lowman, AJ Johnson, François Turenne and Thom Hammerton," he says.

Elora's River Fest, for the time being, remains their own live date.

Donovan Woods rolling along with 'Truck Full of Money'

Will McGuirk March 20, 2018

Can you have it both ways? Donovan Woods has named his new album "Both Ways", its due Apr 20 2018 on Meant Well. Woods looks at both sides on the latest single from the record; on "Truck Full of Money" he knows he can tour and make dollars in his truck but his home life suffers. If he stays at home then the dollars don't follow. Can you have it both ways? The video reflects this reflection of life as on the road. Woods has a lot in common with another singer/songwriter, Justin Rutledge. Both are intelligent lyricists and both have a preference for a deep dark sound in their country folk songs.  They both follow on in the tradition of Blue Rodeo and The Band.
