The Revivalists

Slowcity.ca Open Mic: Northumberland, Cowboy Junkies, Patrick Krief, summersets, Golden Feather, the Projectors, Half Moon Run, and the Revivalists

Will McGuirk June 5, 2023

By Will McGuirk

“I remember in the studio we were really influenced by this more obscure Wilco song ‘Black Moon’ and it was our attempt at doing big CSNY style vocal harmonies throughout. Lyrically, in the sequence of the album, it falls right after the two characters breakup and fast forwards the timeline many years. A tricky, yet important song to set up their eventual reconciliation and the latter third of the album/story. One of my favourites we’ve made as summersets.” - Kalle Matheson, summersets

“It gave me more meaning to my current group of friends, all around me, to always welcoming me in their hearts as I do them. ‘Come, let me show what you are capable of, I like you, I love you, for who you are.’ I have always belonged to many foundations growing, and mainly of family and friends feeding me a beautiful life.” - Terry Uyarak

“The online wailing wall or maybe the Goliath of our generation. Social media therapy is what we need. Social media therapy is a necessity.” - Pierre Kwenders

“Flowers On My Bedside is a song for empowerment. I wrote it when I was in a sad place and it was a very healing experience, to take a hard situation and turn it into something that feels creatively inspiring.” - Bella White

Slowcity.ca Open Mic pre-future edition with Braids, Dralms, Loving, Caveboy, Lord Dying, Nikki Yanofsky, Laila Biali and The Revivalists

The future is inevitable, even the day after the Groundhog, round and round and round again, even after palindrome dates - back and forward, to and fro, but the sun rises and the mellow days of a waning winter approach, the endlessness ends and in the waxing we wait for the inevitable breaking of Spring. Perhaps earlier in this year of hindsight, perhaps earlier than ever. The sameness is no longer.

“Why is it that where we were or what we had isn’t clear until it’s gone and over? In the end, has the story written itself?” - Dralms

“The video was filmed on location in the countries that made up former Yugoslavia. It highlights both the beauty and strangeness of Spomenik (WW2) monuments, some of which have been forgotten by the sands of time.” - Lord Dying

“Forget is about being underestimated, overlooked and doubted, but prevailing. Going from the butt of a joke to being impossible to ignore, being everywhere (like a meme!). A song for the haters.” - NIkki Yanofsky

“I believe that nothing is wasted, that even life's greatest challenges can produce something meaningful, even if only to make us more aware of and empathetic to the struggles of those around us.” - Laila Biali
